Classroom Management Philosophy
As a teacher, providing a safe, comfortable classroom environment and maximizing opportunities for student learning are the most important factors in governing student behavior. In this statement, I will describe my strategies for establishing and maintaining a well-managed environment to optimize learning opportunities.
In order to get to know all the students, I will use the first couple of weeks to get to know them. We will do leadership and collaborative activities to establish a comfortable atmosphere and to get to know one another better. All students’ interests, strengths, and cultural backgrounds are welcomed and valued. I treat all students equitably and communicate with them to make them feel cared for, listened to, and respected.
We have created classroom rules to ensure for a safe learning environment for all students. It is particular important because of the diversity within the classroom. I want all the students to feel safe in the classroom and to be able to learn. With the rules implemented of be responsible, be respectful, keep focused, and be creative all students are able to contribute to the classroom in all four of these ways. We have furthered the rules by implementing rewards for being on task, good behavior, and listening to others. This implementation will be through positive notes home and positive phone calls.
I want to acknowledge and encourage good behavior and academic success in my classroom. I think that letting parents know at home is another way to involve parents in the classroom as well as reinforce good behavior and learning by the students. I will also make some positive phone calls home as this shows the students that I take good behavior seriously. This phone call also establishes a connection between me and the parents.
Management in the classroom is important for a successful school day and school year. Starting the year off with rules and guidelines are important because it gives students structure and a routine that they can follow every day.
